Miramichi Homelessness Strategy and Workplan
LOCATION: Miramichi, New Brunswick
YEAR: 2025, ongoing
PROJECT: Strategy and Workplan Development and Implementation for Greater Miramichi Homelessness Community Advisory Board
CLIENT: Greater Miramichi Homelessness Community Advisory Board
PRACTICE AREAS: Affordable Housing; Strategic Planning; Government Relations; Community and Stakeholder Engagement
ATN Strategies partnered with MQO Research and the Greater Miramichi Homelessness Community Advisory Board (CAB) to design a long-term homelessness strategy and work plan for the region. The project engaged community stakeholders through interviews, workshops, and site visits, building a clear picture of the local housing landscape and identifying priority gaps in prevention, shelter, and housing support.
ATN reviewed regional housing studies, provincial and federal strategies, and CAB’s existing governance structure. Engagement was structured to include government representatives, Indigenous communities, service providers, and individuals with lived experience of homelessness, ensuring the strategy was grounded in both evidence and community voice.
The resulting strategy provides CAB with a roadmap to strengthen governance, improve collaboration across service providers, and clarify the role of local and provincial partners. Recommendations emphasize system efficiency, eviction prevention, and service coordination, while also outlining practical steps to build partnerships that address immediate needs and create pathways to permanent housing.
ATN delivered a full strategy document and an executive summary tailored for decision-makers. Together, these resources equip community leaders with actionable tools to advocate for resources, strengthen accountability, and align local efforts with broader provincial strategies. The work ensures Greater Miramichi is positioned to reduce homelessness by making it rare, brief, and nonrecurring.
