Aquaculture Impact Study
CLIENT: Cooke Aquaculture
PROJECT: The Impact of Aquaculture on Tourism Kelly Cove Salmon
LOCATION: Nova Scotia
PRACTICE AREA: Fisheries & Aquaculture
ATN was engaged by Cooke Aquaculture to assess the potential impact of proposed aquaculture operations in Liverpool Bay, specifically the Kelly Cove Salmon application, on local tourism.
Over a fast-tracked three-week timeline, we conducted a site visit, mapped the region’s visitor ecosystem with a focus on marine tourism, and carried out in-depth secondary research to profile local tourism trends. The research team documented leading global practices in waterfront development and sustainable tourism, and conducted a jurisdictional scan of regions where aquaculture and tourism have successfully coexisted.
The final report gave Cooke timely insights, case studies, and recommendations to guide the application process, address public concerns, and highlight opportunities for aquaculture and tourism to benefit each other.
