Royden Trainor is a distinguished and innovative leader with over 30 years of invaluable experience. His unique background spans senior roles in both government and the private sector, providing him with a comprehensive understanding of diverse perspectives. Royden’s expertise extends to legal, legislative, and regulatory compliance issues, coupled with insights into governance, institutional dynamics, and program and institutional effectiveness. He has played a central role in shaping Nova Scotia’s most significant public policy initiatives, earning a well-deserved reputation for integrity, innovation, and executive problem-solving.
With a keen understanding of stakeholder engagement, Royden excels at building solutions to complex problems and effectively communicating them. His capacity to navigate the intricacies of both the public and private sectors, coupled with a deep understanding of legal concepts, public policy the operations of government, regulatory framework and legislation, makes him a versatile problem solver. Royden’s experiences in regulatory and compliance matters across several jurisdictions and subject matters coupled with his familiarity with accountability and accreditation models, set him apart.
Royden has a proven track record of successfully launching new organizations, exemplified by his role in establishing the Ontario College of Trades and leading the regulatory compliance agency for the private education sector in British Columbia and serving as General council to a number of large corporations. His formal education includes an honors degree in political science and public policy, as well as a law degree from Dalhousie University, and been admitted to both the B.C. and Nova Scotia Bars.
Royden has expansive experience in Board governance and institutional effectiveness, currently severing as co-chair of the Greenspring Bio Innovation Hub and been a key advisor in the establishment of the governance model for the NSCC among others. Royden has also led and supported a number of public boards of inquiry/reviews including as Chair.
